Heat pumps
- What it looks like
- A slim outdoor unit sits beside your home, connected by a small line to an indoor unit or your existing ductwork. Most installs take one to two days.
- How it works
- Instead of burning fuel, a heat pump moves heat. In winter it pulls warmth from outdoor air (even at -25°C with cold-climate models) and brings it inside. In summer it reverses and works as an air conditioner.
- Why it's worth it
- One system replaces both your furnace and AC, gives steady even comfort, and cuts greenhouse gas emissions.
- How you save
- Heat pumps can deliver up to 3 units of heat for every unit of electricity used, which can lower heating costs compared to oil, propane or electric baseboards. They also qualify for the largest rebates.
